In addition to editing genes, researchers are considering the possibility of using technologies like CRISPR to synthesize an entire human genome from scratch. If successful, this could ultimately lead to the ability to create human babies who have no biological parents. At the 2016 World Science Festival, geneticist George Church and bioethicist S. Matthew Liao discussed how to prevent immoral uses of such powerful technology, including engineering humans for the sole purpose of warfare.
